Giving your Opinion

One of my pupils was asking how to give their opinion in English today,

so here are some useful phrases:

Personal Point of View

We use these words and phrases to express a personal point of view:

  • In my experience…
  • As far as I’m concerned…
  • Speaking for myself…
  • In my opinion…
  • Personally, I think…
  • I’d say that…
  • I’d suggest that…
  • I’d like to point out that…
  • I believe that…
  • What I mean is…

General Point of View

We use these words and phrases to express a point of view that is generally thought by people:

  • It is thought that…
  • Some people say that…
  • It is considered…
  • It is generally accepted that…

Agreeing with an opinion

We use these words and phrases to agree with someone else’s point of view:

  • Of course.
  • You’re absolutely right.
  • Yes, I agree.
  • I think so too.
  • That’s a good point.
  • Exactly.
  • I don’t think so either.
  • So do I.
  • I’d go along with that.
  • That’s true.
  • Neither do I.
  • I agree with you entirely.
  • That’s just what I was thinking.
  • I couldn’t agree more.

Disagreeing with an opinion

We use these words and phrases to disagree with someone else’s point of view:

  • That’s different.
  • I don’t agree with you.
  • However…
  • That’s not entirely true.
  • On the contrary…
  • I’m sorry to disagree with you, but…
  • Yes, but don’t you think…
  • That’s not the same thing at all.
  • I’m afraid I have to disagree.
  • I’m not so sure about that.
  • I must take issue with you on that.
  • It’s unjustifiable to say that…

You don’t have to remember them all!

Now for some practice:

What do you think of saying the pledge of allegiance every day?

Would you like to wear a school uniform?

Do you think homework is a good or bad idea?

I’m looking forward to hearing your opinion 🙂

This Week…

3ème Presentation

Hi troisièmes!

You remember today we talked about your presentation that you must give me by MONDAY 7th OCTOBER.

You have chosen your subject, start by planning what you will say and researching some facts.

DO NOT COPY a site or text, I would prefer to hear what you have to say.

When you have prepared and practised your presentation you must record it. You have two options;

1) Audioboo

Register your presentation, think about speaking clearly and using good intonation.

When you are happy with the result send me the link by mail to fabenglishteacher@gmail.com

2) Woices Prepare your presentation then go to this site, log in, record your « echo » and link it to the place you are talking about.

Then send me a message telling me where to look.

For both these methods use the name LT3eme+your name, eg LT3emefabenglish.

If you have any questions or problems let me know as soon as possible.

Fab!
